With the collapse of Afghanistan's republican system in August 2021; Many people were forced to leave their country due to serious security threats and unemployment.

One of these neighboring countries is Pakistan, where many Afghans live. According to the figures of the International Organization for Refugees in Pakistan, only 343 thousand people have requested help from them and their supporting agencies since the beginning of 2021. According to the government of Pakistan, 600,000 people have come to Pakistan since that date.

Now the Afghan refugees say that they are out of luck and are looking for serious concerns. Because of this concern, some people have stopped smoking.

Rumal (pseudonym) is a journalist and has been living in Pakistan for two years. He says that I used to smoke cigarettes but then I gave them back four years ago. He adds that after coming to Pakistan, he stopped smoking again.

He says: "When I finished my year in Pakistan, I started chasing other worries. I don't know why it happened. I'm afraid It's been a year since I started smoking. The first time, I smoked two or three cigarettes over and over again, once or twice a day.

Rommel adds that he does not sleep all night and sits outside his house until one o'clock in the morning and spends time talking and smoking cigarettes.

Another Afghan youth, who does not want to be named in the report, says that he is away from his family and lives alone here in Pakistan. He started smoking cigarettes here in Pakistan. This young man, who is 27 years old, says that he is working with an international girl in Afghanistan and has also been a civil activist.

He says that he was very busy with his life there and didn't pay attention to smoking or drinking. He adds: "My life was very busy, I went to work in the morning and returned home in the afternoon; I was tired and I didn't care about cigarettes."

This young man, who is about 28 years old, adds: "There is unemployment, there is no work or activity. I come out of the house and I am sitting here with this shop, my friends are gathering. The shopkeeper is also a friend. I take a cigarette from him and smoke it."

He says: "As I know my economy is weak and I spend a lot of money on cigarettes; But I'm used to it. If I don't smoke it, I get anxious and I get sick."

Both these WhatsApp groups have 310 participants, including women and men. But only 17 people answered the questionnaire.

Name and gender were also asked in the questionnaire, but only two people showed their names.

Among them, two people showed their gender as female, while the rest of them were male and their age was between 25 and 55 years, and most of them were between 25 and 40 years old.

Most of them said that after coming to Pakistan, they got used to smoking, and the reason for this was their misfortune and worries.

In response to the question, what kind of cigarettes do the respondents use? Some have named cigarettes and some have said that there is no difference between cigarettes, whatever they are they smoke.

They said that they are aware of the harm of smoking cigarettes, which causes cancer, but that smoking cigarettes can reduce anxiety and sadness; That's why he smokes.

But does smoking really relieve anxiety? I asked Shahbaz Khan, a doctor in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, about this. He said: "It is the perception of patients that smoking cigarettes reduces stress." This is not you. Because cigarettes also increase anxiety. Heart rate increases. From the use of tobacco, a person can suffer from heart disease, shortness of breath, digestive system disorders, empty stomachs, stomach diseases, stomach disorders, mouth cancer, and stomach cancer. It is necessary that people refrain from smoking cigarettes so that they do not suffer from other diseases in the future.

He says that nicotine gives some relief while it is still there, but taking too much nicotine becomes a habit that is difficult to quit in the future.

Pakistani shopkeepers also confirm that the purchase and sale of cigarettes has increased with the arrival of Afghans to Pakistan.

I talked about this with two shopkeepers in two different areas. A shopkeeper in Peshawar's Board Bazaar said that in the last two years, many Afghans have come to his shop and want cigarettes. He says that there are many people interested in cigarettes with the names of (Pen, Ace Black, Milano Black and White, Ace Change). He adds that these are foreign cigarettes and obviously cannot be sold in Pakistan, because the government generally prohibits the purchase and sale of foreign cigarettes.

This shopkeeper says: "The government does not allow us to bring these cigarettes secretly; Because the government takes a lot of tax on it and people want it. We bring them for our customers and if they are not available, then there are other Pakistani cigarettes that buy them.

He adds: "We can sell cigarettes produced in Pakistan according to the law of the government of Pakistan. But the demand of Afghans has forced me to bring imported goods and sell them to them.

This shopkeeper adds that the price of cigarettes has increased recently because the number of consumers has increased. According to him: "Afghans and Pakistanis also smoke a lot."

I was waiting for an interview with this shopkeeper. Because two other people bought it. At the same time, a young man from Pakistan arrived. And the shopkeeper was calling a woman through her phone. The phone was loud and the lady who was talking to Shah on the phone was an Afghani, because she spoke in Urdu with the accent of three languages. On the phone, the woman asked the shopkeeper for a pack of cigarettes (a packet containing ten packs of cigarettes) along with some food items, and the shopkeeper took a pack of cigarettes and the other food items she asked for in a plastic bag. put it and send it to the owner of the telephone.
