Exiled journalists want to set the stage for the release of journalists in Taliban prison

Exiled Afghan journalists in Europe and North America have asked the Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) to facilitate the release of Ramin Amiri, Obaidullah Ahmadi and other journalists in Taliban custody.

They say that the reason for the arrest of these two local journalists and other journalists by the Taliban has not yet been determined.

In a statement published on Thursday, exiled Afghan journalists considered the deprivation of freedom of journalists and media workers a serious violation of human rights and demanded that it be recorded in the Taliban's record.

They have also requested Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights for Afghanistan, to provide a report on the situation of journalists and freedom of expression in the country.

Inside Afghanistan, journalists censor facts for fear of being arrested by the Taliban.

One of the journalists says that after the overthrow of the republican regime, some journalists were arrested, jailed and beaten for covering the truth.

The Center of Afghan Journalists also recorded 139 cases of media and journalists' rights violations in this country last year.
