Türkiye announced the arrest of more than a thousand refugees in the past month

Turkish media, citing Turkish officials, reported that 1,966 "illegal asylum seekers", including Afghan citizens, were arrested in Edirne last month.

According to the reports, these asylum seekers were arrested last day (Wednesday, 5 Thor) and introduced to the Edirne Immigration Department.

According to the local authorities of Edirne, 54 of these people have been arrested in connection with charges of human and drug trafficking.

It should be noted that the process of deportation and arrest of Afghan immigrants from Iran, Pakistan and Turkey has increased in the past months.

According to reports, most of the detained asylum seekers are citizens of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Earlier, the Turkish media reported the arrest of hundreds of Afghan refugees due to "not having a residence permit in Turkey".

The Ministry of Interior of Turkey has emphasized that in 2023, 68,687 Afghan immigrants have been arrested from this country and some of them have been deported.

At the same time, the Turkish authorities have announced that the operation to deal with the entry and arrest of illegal immigrants will continue throughout Turkey.
