Amnesty International: Human rights violations continue in Guantanamo prison

Amnesty International criticized human rights violations in Guantanamo prison and said that this prison should be closed.

In a statement on Wednesday, January 10, this organization said that human rights violations continue in Guantanamo prison, which includes the detention of at least 30 men who have not committed any crime.

According to this announcement, "22 years after the US government opened Guantanamo Bay to detain Muslim men beyond the reach of the country's laws, this violation of human rights continues today."

Amnesty International called this extrajudicial process "abhorrent" and stressed that the Guantanamo prison should be closed.

Referring to cases in which prisoners have been found innocent but are still in this prison, this organization has said that about 10 years ago, at least 16 prisoners in Guantanamo were found innocent by the American security institutions, but some of them are kept in this prison illegally. .

Amnesty International's announcement also states that at least 30 people have been kept in Guantanamo without being charged with a crime for several years.

Guantanamo prison was established after the September 11th terrorist attacks in order to hold those who were involved in these attacks.

This prison was established in January 2002. Since then, 780 prisoners from 48 countries have been kept in Guantanamo prison, most of whom are Afghan nationals.
