The United Nations warned; Most Afghans do not have the ability to meet their basic needs

In a recent announcement, Indrika Ratwathe, deputy head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and humanitarian aid coordinator of this organization, warned that the majority of Afghans are unable to meet their basic needs, including food and housing.

According to the report, about 15.8 million Afghans will face food crisis and insecurity this year. Also, the average life expectancy in Afghanistan has decreased in the last five years and 95 percent of people describe their life as miserable.

The United Nations has identified the causes of this situation as the recent earthquakes in Herat and the return of migrants from neighboring countries.

This institution emphasized the need for sustainable international cooperation and support to resolve this crisis and also demanded respect for human rights, gender equality and women's empowerment in Afghanistan.

Also, the Taliban's strict restrictions against women, the flight of investors, the stagnation of small businesses and the lack of job opportunities have caused the spread of poverty in Afghanistan.
